Remediation and Rehabilitation of Oredo Waste Pit-8
At B2 Oil and Gas Project Limited, we are proud to have been entrusted with the remediation and rehabilitation of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company’s (NPDC) Oredo Well-8 Waste pit in Oil Mining License (OML) 111 Flow Station, Edo State. This project represents our commitment to environmental stewardship and our expertise in addressing complex contamination challenges.
The Oredo Well-8 Waste Pit presented significant concerns and threat due to years of improper and inadequate waste disposal practices from industrial processes and operations. Our team conducted a comprehensive site assessment, carefully analyzing soil, ground water, and other affected media to understand the extent and nature of the contamination. The findings revealed high levels of hazardous substances such as hydrocarbon, posing a serious risk to the surrounding Field Logistics Base (FLB) and ecosystem.
To address this challenge, B2 developed a tailored remediation plan that integrated a range of innovative strategies and technologies. Our approach combined excavation and removal of contaminated soil, followed by on-site treatment to neutralize and advanced bioremediation techniques, harnessing the power of natural processes to restore the site’s integrity.
Throughout the project, B2 prioritized environmental protection and safety. Our team implemented rigorous containment measures to prevent further migration of contaminants, utilizing state-of-the-art liners and berms to safeguard the surrounding areas. Additionally, B2 strictly adhered to regulatory guidelines and best practices, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards.
Continuous monitoring was a critical aspect of our project. B2 installed an extensive network of monitoring wells, allowing us to closely track the progress of remediation efforts. Regular sampling and analysis provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of our strategies, confirming the gradual reduction of contamination levels over time.
Upon completion of the project in the year 2017, B2 is thrilled to witness the transformation of the Oredo Well-8 Waste Pit in OML 111 Flow Station. The once heavily contaminated site is now on its way to being restored to its original condition, ready to support biodiversity and contribute to healthier environment.
